Elections 2006

Well I hope I’m not too late. I’m just doing up my registration form to fax in right now. Then they will mail me my ballot then I will mail it back. Somehow, with the efficiency of our government I really don’t think it’ll make it…but at least I tried:)

So I still haven’t decided who is going to get my one measly vote. All I know is that it will definetly not be the conservatives. I can’t bring myself to do it. The last little while sitting here I have been reading platforms and looking at websites. The amount of BS I have read is astounding, and as a result have decided to vote for the party that I determine talk the least amount of bullshit. So that also eliminates the Liberals, but they weren’t going to get my vote anyway, they just made too many mistakes over the past little while and it has been too long. Time for a change. What with the scandals…although I realize that that was mostly media…and generally the decline of the country (crime, environment, poverty rates, high costs of…everything), enough of the reds for now. They’ll get their chance again, but it’s time to see what someone else can do.

A little while ago I was looking through the gross amount of parties that exist in Canada and trying to separate the legit from the Jedis:P *no unfortunatly we don’t have a Jedi party* How many parties can you list? How about the Canadian Communist party, or the Cosmopolitan party, or even better the Coalition for a Humanistic European British Canada?

Go here for a complete list….I promise it will make you laugh, and in a couple cases maybe even make you cry.

Right now though it is looking like the Green party. As much as people make fun of them, how much do you know about the Green Party? They have some really good ideas (some bad ones too but a lot less than some others), many of them I agree with. The environment is at the top of the list, a good thing for sure. Although I have always taken an “I don’t care stance” on the environment argument I never really believed it. I mean I hate cigarette smoke and love walking through the woods/mountains. Imagine living in a place where the air is like cigarette smoke only heavier (many cities in the developing world, namely in India and China)…not pleasant for sure. Also high in the platform is support for culture and arts developement and student aid for post secondary. These two things are important to me for obvious reasons. They have the pretty normal stances on things like taxes and Health care, although they take a moderate, but progressive approach. They don’t say things which are just blatantly not realistic (*cough…conservatives). I think my favorite thing about them is that they aren’t afraid of trying new approaches rather than constantly trying to bring the past to bear on the future (*cough…leading three parties).

Anyway enough politics, although it would be cool to hear what you other Canadians, or Canadians at heart, have to say.

EDIT: Check out this game. How long would you last the leader of Canada, the world’s largest pushover?
