Don’t say the B-word

As some of you may have noticed, blogging has been getting a bad reputation in the media lately. As usual the media is clinging on to the small negative aspect of a generally good thing. There have been stories lately about people being accused of hypocrisy or not getting jobs because of postings on their blog.

I mean, I bet if someone specifically looking for a terrorist or communist scoured these pages they could find something to aid their case. That’s more the issue, when it becomes a problem for people to bare their souls, or talk about real issues it’s the problem of the people who use that for negativity. It makes me think of Huxeley’s A Brave New World, or Orwell’s 1984, pretty soon the blog movement will have to go into hiding to escape the accusations of an uncaring world. This morning there was a segment on CBC radio on the “dangers of blogging” (about halfway down the page under the bolded title Blogging Bill of Rights).

Now that is a bit extremist, and I doubt, or hope anyway, that nothing like that will happen. But this begs the question: what kind of world do we live in when the response to another human being’s innermost feelings and beliefs, is to use it to hurt them? This is one of the questions that I am struggling most with right now, how do I help? I can see what needs to be done, at least and idea of it anyway, but it almost seems like there are systems in place to prevent those changes.

I love life, as anyone will attest to, but the world can be an awfully scary and cruel place sometimes. It is truly no wonder that such horrifying events occur, and continue to occur on a more regular basis. Until we begin to realize that our medical analysis of these events (ie. treat the symptoms) is not truly helping anyone except the “doctors” who just don’t want to deal with the real issues, these events will continue to occur.

Wow, I’m not entirely sure where that came from, but maybe you can decode my blabberings!

Peace
