Not too long
Well I’m not feeling completely well. It always seems to happen right when holidays start. Aw well:P So it’s been a while, but I am gonna try to keep this short since I am kind of tired.
Salzburg
It was really fun until Sunday. Then it was just sad. The reason being that it was the last weekend for our oldies. They all go home in two weeks or less. I really don’t know what it’s gonna be like not having them around, and then we will be oldies when our newbies come in mid to late January. Scary! Anyway, the oldies were a lot of fun, and we all learned lots from them so thanks guys.
Salzburg itself was nice…tons of tourists, which always ruins everything:P
Christmas
Well two days for me, and three for you. I can’t believe it’s Christmas already! Time is just flying, and promises to stay at it’s current warp speed, as the upcoming events in my life are fairly weighty. The day after North American Christmas (ie. 25th not 24th) I have to move all my stuff from my current host family to my new host family. I still really dont know when my actual person will be going to join my material things:P Sometime in there is a ski trip with my new host family…ahh well, it’s not like i really need to know in advance, my schedule isn’t exactly chock full. I’ll just get on whichever train whenever they tell me to. Getting on random trains is always fun.
Christmas promises to be interesting for sure. Hopefully I will make it through, I did get a couple new books from the Salzburg weekend so I’m sure I’ll make it. Yes that’s right I’m replacing my family and friends with novels, but I’ve gotta keep myself entertained somehow. If I think about it too much it will just make me homesick.
what else to talk about…oh yah!
Emails
My apologies to all those who have sent letters/emails (in particular)/any kind of correspondance. I have had contact with a computer in 5 min bouts only twice over the last week+ until now so you’ll have to forgive. I will be responding soon I promise. I think I will splurge too and buy a crazy expensive Austrian calling card, because there are a few people who I haven’t talked to in ages who it would be nice to catch up with. But be assured that your emails warrant a response and you will get said response as soon as I possibly can. Tomorrow I have to help decorate the 5 metre tree here, and that promises to be quite a task. They won’t let me light the candles on the tree though…I wonder why????
Well as you also probably noticed I have updated everything that is updateable on this blog. The random photo has been changed to yet another cynical yet slightly entertaining comic. The song of the week (techinically week and a half this time) has also been changed. This one is for a slightly less…broad audience. There are some who will hate it and some who will like it…I could probably name you all right now:D I have been listening to this a fair bit as I am playing it in a concert in the new year with a piano (no orchestra unfortunately). It is a beautiful piece, the second movement is actually my favorite but the first is amazing and gives you a better feel for the piece since the theme is stated so clearly.
Oh! I just thought of something else to write about. Which is really probably the most exciting thing in my life right now. Music theory is actually coming together fr me…I am beginning to understand it. Specifically, chord contruction/basic substition and function/some other good stuff. This is very exciting as I was always astounded at my absolute ineptitude at the stuff. BTW - I still completely reek at piano…completely. Even more exciting is the fact that I am 16 bars finished of “Moutain moods”. My first piece of any substance whatsoever, three guesses as to what I am thinking of while writing it:D. I decided to stick to the usual 32 bar form as the harmonies and time is kinda…whacky. That way the musicians that are playing it (ie…me and whoever I can rope into playing it with me) will have some clue as to where the hell we are some of the time.
I guess that’s it. Till the next episode.
Frieden,
Nick
