Canadian Brass and the unending week

Since I won´t have time later this week to write an entry this will refer to what has/is/and will happen(ed)(ing). So far it has been an incredible week and a tiring one at the same time. I think the three things that tire me out most are new relationships, a new language and traveling. This week I have had an abundance of these three things. I started school on Monday and it turned out to be really good. The teacher I have for many of my classes is really great and the other classes I have that I really don´t want to go to I can either just read in them , or not go and go to the musik school in Judenburg instead. Everyone is really nice, and my class is really cool. Classes are a hell of a lot more relaxed here. Everyone is best buds with the teacher and jokes are always flying around. The fifty min. classes are awesome too, it staves off some of the absolute boredom (some). So the hour and a half bus, train, bus ride to school sucks pretty hard as well as the fact that I have to get up at 5:45am to go on this ride. But it gives me time to read, listen to music and just generally think which is cool. For monday and tuesday I went to school and got to know my way around a little and meet a few people. Then on wednesday I was off to Vienna again to see the Canadian Brass in Concert. As you have probably already guessed I pooped my pants. It was amazing. They have a new trumpet player, Justin something or other, who sounded really good. *Funny story - He asked his girlfriend to marry him an hour before the concert in front of the Viennese opera house:) She said yes. After the concert I got a chance to talk to the guys and get my CD signed. I ended up talking to Justin for a while and found out he is now living in Toronto with his now fiance (he´s from California). Anyway, he said I could get a lesson next time I´m toronto, how sweet is that!

I also had a revelation in the middle of the concert. This is what i want to do! It includes everything i hold dear right now. Lots of travel all across the globe, music hard enough to keep me challenged even after playing it countless times, a small group easy to travel with, plus it´s the CANADIAN BRASS! Watch out canadian brass Nick is coming :p We´ll see what happens. Something to work towards anyway. I arrived about five hours before the concert in Vienna and just wondered around the city however being the idiot that I am I forgot my camera in the flat and decided instead to take pictures the next day (today). So I got no pictures of the brass and today was pissing rain so I also got no pics. aww well I´ll be in Vienna lots between now and May.

Tomorrow I go to school again. Then at seven on saturday morning I am off with a group of complete strangers (Scheifling big band)to Croatia and Slovenia. There I will take lots of pictures I promise. I get back sunday (i think) and then it´s off to school again on Monday at 5:45am. Yes it´s gonna be a long week. Exciting though. how many weeks do I have where I see my favorite band in Vienna in an exquisite concert hall (all lined with gold with perfect acoustics), start a in a new school and meet lots of new people, and then travel to two different countries to do some sightseeing? I don´t know when my next post will be cause as you can see it´s gonna be a little hectic in the near future.

OH! I almost forgot on tuesday I had my first trumpet lesson which went really well. he assigned me a really tough characteristic study right away which is a good sign. he´s also a pretty nice guy, although I´m not sure if i like his playing yet, we´ll see:) Also on tuesday I had my first dance lesson. Yep that´s right Sarah, I had my first dance lesson. When I get home we´re going dancing!:) It´s a course for fox trot, Wiener waltz and swing dance. I already know the first variations of the trot and waltz. We do those two for about 4 weeks and then swing for the remaining 5 weeks. Look out ladies…:P
